Oh please, a nation has the right to protect the integrity of its borders. I lived in Japan for three years where the police had the right to ask to see my "papers", and I never felt oppressed.
America has the most lenient attitude towards illegal immigrants in the world, even though some of 'em are roaming in our national borders with AK-47s.
The Nazis ate food, too. Oh my god!!! We eat food!? We're *just* like them! The horror!
I completely agree that a nation has the right to protect the integrity of its borders. However, I think a state law that requires police officers in an entire state to question anyone they "suspect" of being an illegal immigrant is far beyond the scope of securing the border or merely empowering police.
Arizona can do whatever it wants to do as a state, and the type of people who live there love this kind of stuff and will surely reelect those who helped to pass it. I think we ought to sort out why the CBP and ICE aren't doing an adequate job though.
I think the Nazi comparison is quite fair. AZ wants to profile people of a certain ethnicity, make sure they are legally registered, and get rid of them if they are not. If I am not mistaken, the Nazis did the exact same thing with Jews leading up to the whole extermination thing. I think this action is a bit more unique and complex than mere eating. I'm not merely Hitler-baiting like a Tea Partier.
If AZ had sense, they would do something about Joe Arapaio and his Maricopa County police force serving 60% of state residents before they require those dirty cops to start hunting down illegals.
